The mountains by afternoon have disappeared into fire-smoke-pall. It's difficult to breathe; bronchial seal-bark coughing.
Does the haze carry HazMat substances? Plutonium, for example? Dunno--all's silent on the southern front. Is no news, gov-news? Hush-hush.
